Is File Guru really free? ⌄
Yes. Every tool in the library is free to use with generous file-size limits — no account, no email, no credit card. A Pro plan (see
Pricing) exists for people who need larger files or batch processing, but it isn't required to use File Guru.
Do my files get uploaded to a server? ⌄
For PDF, image, and everyday-utility tools, no — everything runs locally in your browser tab using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device. Video and audio tools (currently in Beta) also process locally via an in-browser WebAssembly build of FFmpeg — nothing is uploaded there either.
Why are the video and audio tools marked "Beta"? ⌄
They run a full video engine (FFmpeg) inside your browser via WebAssembly, which is powerful but resource-intensive. Performance depends on your device, and very large or long files may be slow. We'll remove the Beta label as we tune performance and expand file-size support.
Why does compressing a PDF make text non-selectable? ⌄
Our Compress PDF tool re-renders each page as an optimized image, which is the most reliable way to meaningfully shrink file size for scanned or image-heavy documents in-browser. If you need to keep selectable text, compress a text-only PDF with a lighter setting, or let us know — a text-preserving mode is on the roadmap.
What file formats do you support? ⌄
PDF, JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, HEIC/HEIF, MP4, WebM, MOV, MP3, CSV, XLSX, JSON, and ZIP today, with more formats being added. See the full library on the
homepage.
Is there a file size limit? ⌄
Free tools are tuned for files up to 100MB (and video clips under a couple of minutes while tools are in Beta). Pro raises the ceiling to 1GB. Very large files may also be limited by your device's own memory, since processing happens in your browser.
Do you support other languages? ⌄
The interface currently ships in English. Multi-language support (starting with Arabic) is on our roadmap.
How do I report a bug or request a tool? ⌄
